Alumni: Sebastião Salgado passes away

Sebastião Salgado graduated from the University of São Paulo with a master's degree in economics and econometrics, and moved to Paris to study for a doctorate in economics at ENSAE Paris, before finally opting a few years later for an artistic career and becoming a leading international figure in humanist photography.

Read the interview he gave to Variances, the ENSAE Alumni magazine, for issue 49, February 2014:

"But this period was also one of essential discovery: that of the meaning life took on when I looked at it through the viewfinder of a camera! I was still at ENSAE when, for the first time, I used the camera Lélia had recently bought. It was a revelation."
