ENSAE Paris - CREST

ENSAE Paris and CREST are recruiting an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the field of Artificial Intelligence applied to finance. The recruitment benefits from the financial support of Hi! PARIS, Paris Artificial Intelligence center for Society and Business.

Candidate Profile

Candidates should have a recognized research activity in machine learning and its applications to finance or in financial modeling based on AI tools. We aim for publications in leading journals across several fields, including machine learning and computer science (e.g., JMLR, JAIR, Pattern Recognition), quantitative finance (Mathematical Finance, Finance and Stochastics), and financial/stochastic modeling (Annals of Applied Probability, Journal of Econometrics, JBES). We also target established journals in broader disciplines such as Journal of Finance, Management Science, and Annals of Operations Research.

CREST is an interdisciplinary lab that includes teams in economics, finance and insurance, statistics and machine learning. The candidate should be able to interact scientifically with colleagues specialized in finance, statistics, and computer science at CREST and other labs of Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

Teaching duties

The recruited candidate will teach in the ENSAE engineering program as well as in partner master programs at Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

Terms and conditions

The appointment starts no later than September 1, 2026. Salary is competitive according to qualifications. Teaching duties are significantly reduced compared to French university standards. The incumbent will have access to substantial research funds covering in particular the funding of a doctoral student.

The position is attributed for an initial three-year term (during which teaching duties is reduced by half if the PhD was obtained less than 3 years earlier), renewable for another three years (with full teaching duties) before the tenure evaluation based on publication track record as well as teaching feedback.

Candidate Requirements

  • PhD in Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Computer Science, Financial Econometrics.
  • Publications or potential to publish in leading international journals in Machine Learning, Applied
  • Probability, Finance, Econometrics and/or Statistics.
  • Ability to teach Machine Learning/AI/Quantitative Finance at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to supervise student projects in these areas.

ENSAE Paris and CREST are currently inviting applications for a position of Assistant or Associate Professor. The position is open to computational sociologists, regardless of their research area.

Candidate Profile

  • PhD in Sociology or a related social science discipline (at the time of appointment)
  • Solid general knowledge in Sociology
  • Solid experience using quantitative and computational social science methods
  • Strong publication record or potential
  • Proficiency in English; proficiency in French is a plus Participation in international academic networks.


Conditions
 

The position has no citizenship requirement. At the Assistant Professor level this is a tenure-track position for a six-year period (with mid-term evaluation) and with a possibility for tenure (Associate Professor); early-tenure is possible conditional on qualifications. Tenure evaluation takes into account publication record, promise of research program, teaching evaluations and participation in collective activities of the ENSAE-CREST community.


The teaching load for Assistant and Associate Professors is 70 hours per year. Teaching consists of courses at the undergraduate and Master levels. The successful candidate is expected to teach classes in general sociology, quantitative methods and computational social science. 


Environment


ENSAE Paris is one of the leading French Grande Écoles, specialized in Quantitative Social Sciences, Economics, Data Science, among other areas. CREST is the associated interdisciplinary center for research on quantitative methods applied to the social sciences. Both institutions are part of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, a cluster of graduate schools, located on the campus of Ecole Polytechnique in the south of Paris.


Sociologists at ENSAE Paris-CREST use empirical data and a diverse range of methods, including quantitative and mixed methods, to study a wide range of topics. We have a strong expertise in methodology and a rich practice with national and international surveys, and of various types of digital data. Our current work addresses questions of social mobility and inequality; demography; work, employment, and organizations; lifestyles and culture; economic sociology; environmental social sciences; migration and immigration; health inequalities; politics and media. 


The research group has a proactive visiting scholar policy and a research seminar with regular participation from international scholars. We teach courses in the ENSAE curriculum and in the Sociology Master’s program which includes two tracks, one in Quantitative Sociology and Demography, and a new one in Computational Social Science. We have a dynamic group of doctoral students who participate actively in the daily life and research activities of the CREST Quantitative Sociology team.
