The second year is the pivotal year, during which students learn the fundamental disciplines of the school while maturing their academic and professional projects.

The first year of the engineering program at ENSAE Paris aims to harmonize the knowledge of students from different backgrounds, to allow them to deepen their knowledge in their original field, and to introduce the fundamental subjects of the school: microeconomics and macroeconomics, probability and statistics, computer science.

The ENSAE Paris engineering program is a multidisciplinary curriculum combining a high-level foundation of skills in applied mathematics, economics, computer science, statistics, econometrics, and machine learning, and a progressive specialization in three years leading to one of six specialization tracks. The ENSAE engineer is both an expert and a generalist in data, capable of collecting, processing, modeling and interpreting it for decision-making purposes.

The Sociology department uses quantitative data and methods to answer classic and contemporary questions in sociology. Current work focuses on social mobility and inequality, demography, gender, family, consumption and lifestyles, cultural practices, attitudes towards environmental issues, social networks, economic sociology, migration, the link between social sciences and genomics, political practices...

The Finance and Insurance department specializes in the quantitative analysis of finance and insurance problems. The topics studied in the laboratory are diverse, but are characterized by the need to use both theory and applications. Among the areas of specialization of the division, we can mention: econometrics of finance, in particular dynamic models in finance, credit risk, volatility models, risk measurement, stochastic models for energy, Lévy processes, longevity risk, extreme value theory, portfolio optimization...

The Economics department brings together professors from ENSAE Paris, the Economics departments of the École Polytechnique and Télécom Paris, and researchers from the CNRS. It therefore brings together all the economists of IP Paris. It conducts research in the fields of applied and theoretical econometrics, game theory, industrial organization, financial and monetary macroeconomics, international economics, labor economics, public policy evaluation and public economics.

The Statistics department brings together researchers in mathematical statistics and data science in the following areas: high-dimensional statistics, statistical learning, learning and game theory, Bayesian statistics, computational statistics and simulation methods, process statistics, statistical network analysis, dimension reduction, optimal transport for machine learning, fairness and privacy.

ENSAE Paris courses are taught by ENSAE Paris professors, whose research activities are carried out within CREST, research professors from partner universities and schools, and high-level professionals from the business world or public organizations.
