Generative AI for Insurance and Actuarial Studies

Objective

This course provides an applied introduction to modern generative models and their use in actuarial contexts. We will explore three main families of methods: Variational Autoencoders (VAE), Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), and diffusion models (Score-based Generative Models), with a focus on their theoretical foundations, practical implementations, and specific relevance for synthetic data generation and the simulation of extreme scenarios. Use cases from non-life insurance and risk management will serve as the guiding thread.
