QS Subject Rankings 2022 - IP Paris among the top universities worldwide

For its first ranking, the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) is positioned among the world's top universities in 8 disciplines in the QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2022. It is directly integrated into the Top 30 in Mathematics, Engineering & Technology, Natural Sciences and Statistics & Operations Research, and the Top 50 in Computer Science and Information Systems, Engineering & Mechanics, Physics & Astronomy and Engineering, Electrical & Electronics.

In France, IP Paris anchors its leadership position as a science and technology institute by placing first in Engineering & Technology, Computer Science and Information Systems and Engineering & Mechanics. 

In addition, the member schools of IP Paris (École Polytechnique, ENSTA Paris, ENSAE Paris, Télécom Paris, Télécom SudParis) are achieving better results in certain disciplines thanks to the grouping of the 5 schools within the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. This is the case, for example, in Computer Science and Information Systems, where IP Paris is ranked 31st in the world, whereas in 2021, X was 55th, Télécom Paris 64th and Télécom SudParis in the 351-400 range. The same is true for Mathematics, where IP Paris is ranked 14th in the world, whereas in 2021, X was 24th, ENSTA Paris in the 451-500 bracket and Télécom Paris in the 301-350 bracket. 

It is in Mathematics that IP Paris achieves its best performance (14th in the world), followed by Engineering & Technology (21st), Natural Sciences (22nd) and Statistics & Operations Research (24th). 

As for Economics & Econometrics, the Institut Polytechnique de Paris achieved a very good score by placing 65th in the world, while the École Polytechnique (the only member school ranked in 2021) was positioned 74th. 

The QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2022 covers 1,543 institutions from 161 countries in 51 disciplines. QS uses the following four key criteria to determine its rankings:

  • Academic reputation assessed from a survey of 100,000 scientific experts,
  • Employer reputation based on a survey of 50,000 recruitment experts,
  • Nearly 96 million citations measuring the impact and quality of research,
  • The H-index, which measures both the productivity and the impact of a researcher's scientific production.
