In addition to contributing to personal fulfilment, knowledge of a second language often makes the difference when it comes to choosing a trainee or a new recruit. At the ENSAE, the following languages are available: German, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French as a foreign language, Italian, Japanese, Russian. Courses in French as a foreign language are mandatory for non-French-speaking students.
Students who choose German or Spanish undergo an evaluation test organised by the Languages Unit.
All sessions last two hours and include students from all three years grouped by level of proficiency.
Courses in the least-studied languages are arranged when demand and the number of students at the required level allow.
Advanced Germanists may choose a "themed" language course on either German cinema or contemporary Germany.
High-level students of Spanish may take a directed reading course.
