The Statistics major is designed to provide students with advanced courses in most fields of statistics and econometrics. The emphasis is on mastering as many advanced statistical methods as possible. The ENSAE statistician is thus clearly specialized in statistical engineering, and can apply his/her state of the art knowledge of statistical methods to a variety of fields, from biostatistics to finance and manufacturing industries. Rather than aiming at full specialization in a particular field of statistics, the major aims to provide strong methodological skills that can then be applied to a wide range of jobs. The module courses then provide more specialized courses showing how statistical and probability methods can be applied. The Research in Statistics module is primarily designed for students aiming to start a Phd project during the last year at ENSAE. However, due to its strong content in theoretical statistics, it is also suited for students aiming to work as methodological specialists in polling organizations, consulting groups or large firms. The Forecasting and Finance module leads to careers as statistician specializing in the treatment of financial data. Forecasting has become highly strategic for large firms experiencing cylical activity. Following additional courses in the Quantitative Finance major will allow students of this module to acquire sufficient knowledge of quantitative finance, necessary to understand the problems tackled by the financial departments of banks. |
