Forecasting and Economic Policy
PDF Print E-mail

The Forecasting and Economic Policy major leads to careers in various types of economic institutions, in particular private banks, central banks, government institutions such as the ministry of finance, economic research institutes, or international organizations (IMF, World Bank, OECD, European institutions etc.). In the latter case however, students will generally have to carry on in a Phd program after completing the courses at the ENSAE as well as masters level research in economics.

Economic policy analysts must be trained in macroeconomics, especially international and financial macroeconomics. They must also be familiar with more "structural " problems related to market organization (labour market, credit market etc.). The courses offered in the major cover these dimensions, from the theoretical as well as empirical points of view (advanced time series, macroeconometrics, forecasting, evaluation of public policies etc.).

Forecasting and economic analysis is another traditional prospect for students. Anticipating economic and financial changes is strategical for the major economic institutions. This job can be exercised within government institutions (ministry of finance, statistical agency, central bank etc.) as well as large private banks (BNP-Paribas, Crédit Agricole, Société Générale, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank etc.), economic research institutes (in France OFCE, Rexecode  etc.) and international organizations.

In order to analyze the consequences of economic and financial globalization and design development strategies, international organizations (IMF, Worls Bank, UNO, OECD etc.) and government or development agencies need economic experts in international economics, trained in macroeconomics, development economics and quantitative analysis.
